CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte firefighters responded to a fire on West Park Avenue off Mint Street in south Charlotte on Wednesday.

The initial call said there could be people trapped inside, but once the firefighters arrived on the scene they discovered everyone was able to escape without being harmed.

The fire started in the kitchen and was contained within 15 minutes. The initial cause of the blaze has been deemed accidental, but the fire department is still investigating.

The department has not said how much damage was done. The Red Cross is currently taking care of the family.

Earlier in the day the Charlotte Fire Department was also at the scene of an apartment fire in west Charlotte.

Fire officials said upon arrival they saw heavy smoke billowing out of the duplex apartment complex in the 100 block of Crestway Drive.

The flames originated from a basement or sub-area underneath the building.

No one was injured. The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
