1430 HRS. 3rd alarm struck for a three story condo fire. Companies arrived to
find heavy fire from the roof. Water supply interrupted by inadequate water
supply from a private hydrant.

1930 HRS. It with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of FF Kent Long of
E-23. FF Long was exercising on duty when he collapsed.

Box Alarm was struck for a vacant building which housed a window tinting business. Crews from station 8 arrived to find heavy fire issuing from the bay doors at the rear of the structure.

It with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of FFII Donna McAllister of
Engine 22 A Shift. Donna lost her life as a result of her battle with Breast and
lung cancer. Donna served with the department for over 17+ years.

Working Residential Fire "Civilian Rescued"
Belvedere Avenue
While arriving on the scene of a single story residence with moderate smoke showing from division A, crews from Engine * & 64 were notified that a female was still inside the house. Firefighter II Andy Williams of E-64 advancing the initial attack line encountered a female subject lying on her bed with a small amount of fire within close proximity to her. After dragging the female to the front door, FF Williams then returned to the fire room to extinguish the fire.

Working House Fire.
(Civilian Fatality)
Box was struck for a house fire with an occupant trapped.
On arrival, brothers from E-11 found smoke issuing from a single story wood
framed residence. During the knockdown, crews came upon a male victim who had
succumb to the fire.

West Brookshire Freeway & Graham Street. Two vehicle
MVA BMW vs. Tractor Trailer with Pin-In
Arriving first due, E-4 found a two vehicle accident in
which a wrong way driver traveling West in the Eastbound lanes of I-277 struck a
tractor trailer head-on instantly killing the male driver.

Incident # 06-0097720 MVA Involving CFD Apparatus
While Picking up lunch at a local restaurant, Firefighters from the one house averted serious injury when the driver went to exit the apparatus and was nearly struck by a passing Cats bus along North Tryon Street. According to reports, the mirrors of both vehicles struck in passing resulting in the drivers door being swung open as the driver began to exit. Damage to both apparatus is considered moderate to front end. L-1 is now riding out of Reserve L-82 AGAIN!
February 2006:

1300 Queens Rd. at Granville Rd.
Single car MVA with Pin-In.
While responding to the incident E-6 was advised the incident was being upgraded
to a rescue response. On arrival, E-6 found a single car MVA which has struck
and sheared off a power pole and a large tree. Two occupants, driver and
passenger both priority 1 patients. Passenger pinned by the legs as the
right front wheel had been forced into the passenger compartment thus ripping
open the firewall and floor pan.

January 2006:
A Shift:
Battalion 1 A Hockey Night
January 13: The 3rd annual Battalion 1 A Family Hockey night was held at the Bobcat arena. Over 38 attendees enjoyed a night out watching the Checkers. FF Tim Budzinski was selected to attempt 3 free throws during intermission for the chance at winning season tickets. Unfortunately, he made only one free throw but came away with this "nifty" Bocats T-shirt and two tickets for a Bobcats Game.
December 2005:
A Shift:
Congrats to Capt. Trey Smith for
completing his studies in Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science from the
University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
Capt. Smith will be graduating Phi Kappa Phi after receiving a 4.0 on his GPA.
Congrats to Tim Budzinski on completing his studies for his Associate in Applied Science in Fire Science from Gaston Community College.
Yet another congrats goes out to Tim and Abby Budzinski on the announcement of the news both will becoming first time parents of in the summer of 2006.
